40 Before 40

Deb's turning 40.

40.jpgOh boy.  2011 brings the arrival of my 40th birthday.  Yikes, time flies.  This blog will document the things I will be doing before I turn 40. Thanks for following me on this journey!

This all counts down to a girls trip in Vegas to celebrate the main event!

water.jpgWater is really the original miracle drug.  It can:

Help you lose weight. Prevent dehydration. Make your skin look younger. Stave off headaches. Has no sugar, fat, calores, etc. Is cheaper and readily available. And can give you super powers so that you clean your entire house in under 20 minutes.

Ok I made that last one up.

This week's 40 before 40 was to get back to regular water consumption.  Lately, the only intake of water seems to be heated and infused with a dark, caffeinated bean.  Since I've been meeting my gym goal, I've noticed how dehydrated I am.

So, recapping 40-b4-40 so far, more sleep, more exercise, more water...this turning 40 thing is not so bad after all!

812863_pink_fitness_center.jpgFitness - if it came in a bottle, everybody would have a great body.  ~Cher~

Thanks Cher - if only I was being fitted for a Bob Mackie see-through-glitter-catsuit...then maybe I'd be more motivated!

OK - kidding aside - this week was much tougher.  I really need to find the best time for me to get to the gym.  I managed to make it 3 times this week - not my goal of 4, but I have made a vow to add it to my schedule with calendar reminders and I've made a commitment to a gym buddy - both should help. I do like Planet Fitness a lot - it's economical and there is variety there.  I alternate between the elliptical and recumbent bike - great options for someone with a deformed foot and a no-impact exercise directive.

I also realized that I was so excited that I was just cleared to exercise by the docs that my week's goal might have been too much too soon.  My 40 minutes 4 times a week was ambitious...and I think I overdid it.

However, I intend to make up for my shortcomings this week by easing into exercise and truly making it part of my regular schedule.  Soon 40 minutes 4X a week will be nothing!

If I could turn back time, if I could find a way.....Does anyone have Bob Mackie's phone number? ;)

sleepingdogs.jpgLet sleeping dogs lie....it appears to be pretty simple for my new puppies to be able to sleep...that is on their top 5 list of things to do today...including other things like try not to pee on the carpet and evicerate this hedgehog and cover the floor with stuffing.

Watching the little angel-devils cuddle up, I realized sleeping more is probably a good thing.  So, Mark and I have resolved to go to bed 40 minutes earlier each night.  We're setting a time limit on television and heading to bed no later than 10pm each evening.

I'm pleased to report that the first night of 40 minutes more of sleep was a success.  More sleep leads to more me time  in the morning and I'm waking up feeling more prepared to tackle the day ahead.

WEEK ONE:  thumbs up to 40 more minutes of sleep!

NEXT WEEK:  40 minutes at the gym 4 times a week.  We'll see how that goes!

harrysally.jpgSally:  And I'm gonna be forty.
Harry:  When?
Sally:  Someday.
Harry:  In eight years.
Sally:  But it's there.  It's just sitting there like this big dead end.

When Harry Met Sally is one of my all time favorite movies.  And if I remember, Sally is sobbing through this entire scene!  Well, to ensure that I am NOT sobbing when I turn 40 this year I've decided to do a few things:

1.  Book a girls only trip to Vegas so I am celebrating the big day in style.
2. Commit to doing something involving the number 40 each week of 2011 to keep my life interesting before i arrive at the dreaded day.

And, I've decided to document it all on my blog!  Follow my adventure  here.  Feel free to type encouraging comments along the way - I will need them!
